ChatGPT and Writing

Firstly, I don’t use ChatGPT to do my writing for me. I feel that is duplicitous and wrong. After writing this I double-checked, on Chatgpt, that duplicitous does mean what I think it means, and that is the heart of the matter.

First step, sign up for ChatGPT. I use it for a ton of things like the following:

  1. synonyms
  2. definitions
  3. to better help me understand things….like the earths magnetic field
  4. Rearranging letters into names (I’m bad at names)
  5. html color codes for tables
  6. to see if specific ideas would work

Below is a powerscale I thought up that I modified with ChatGPT 3x before I felt I was done:

Basic – #808080 (Gray)
Weak – #FFC0CB (Pink)
Moderate – #FFFF00 (Yellow)
Strong – #00FF00 (Lime Green)
Advanced – #0000FF (Blue)
Mighty – #800080 (Purple)
Potent – #FFA500 (Orange)
Formidable – #FF0000 (Red)
Supreme – #FFD700 (Gold)
Transcendent – #00FFFF (Cyan)
Godly – #FFFFFF (White)
Omnipotent – #800000 (Maroon)
Exalted – #FF1493 (Deep Pink)
Unparalleled – #7FFF00 (Chartreuse)
Incomparable – #00008B (Dark Blue)
Almighty – #B22222 (Fire Brick)
Ineffable – #4B0082 (Indigo)
Invincible – #8B4513 (Saddle Brown)
Preeminent – #FFD700 (Gold)

Unbeatable – #B8860B (Dark Goldenrod)
Majestic – #800080 (Purple)
All-powerful – #FF0000 (Red)
Eternal – #708090 (Slate Gray)
All-encompassing – #808080 (Gray)
Sublime – #FFD700 (Gold)
Resplendent – #FFC0CB (Pink)

Here is where I asked for 15 synonyms for the word powerful that have to do with magic:

  • Potent
  • Enchanting
  • Mystical
  • Sorcerous
  • Wizardly
  • Spellbinding
  • Enigmatic
  • Bewitching
  • Supernatural
  • Mystic
  • Charismatic
  • Incantatory
  • Enigmatical
  • Bewitched
  • Wizarding

Do I use it for everything? God no. But I do use it, and I think that’s important. It’s a tool that’s less in my tool chest, and more beside me, to get to the metaphor. I again, do not use it to write for me, as that is just plagiarism with extra steps. It can and should be used by writers who have an interest in expediency and ease of use. I’m using it currently to replace a dozen other steps I was using prior. Give it a shot, but don’t let it take over your originality. It’s still a robot.
