The Gnomic Father Pt. 5

It’s time we talked, of who we are

No, not skin and voice, not money nor choices

It’s about your soul, about your poisons

You need to find yourself, find your guiding star

There comes a time, when you’re in a place

You’ll know it well by how it grabs

It finds us all, even the dads

You cannot run, can’t lose its embrace

It’s called a code, a way to be

It’ll find you fast, make you its thrall

You have a choice, stand tall or small

As for me, I never took the Knee

There’s a way to live, better than you now know

It’s in how we strive, how we take life’s blows

The Gnomic Father Pt. 4

Go and grab your toys, you know the ones, you

don’t play with them anymore

Get your robots, your legos, and all

It’s time to show you where they fall

Place them in a box, arrange them as you will

Take your smiles and laughs and place them in as well

Grab your memories, stretch them long and let them swell

We’re going to take them where they can matter still

Filch the tape and bind it tight, we wouldn’t want

the gifts to break

They’ll find others and procreate

You need to stand strong, when they haunt

Now set it down, let the donation soak

You’ll find life is better to better folk

The Gnomic Father Pt. 3

Come child, come near and listen well

I’ll speak of the times we read, and why they matter

Reading takes you to another plane and place, allowing illusions to shatter

It will carry you through the harshest moments, when all feels like hell

You open the page and begin your journey, living vicariously

You’ll find a one whom you connect with, share their worries and fly

At any point, you can close the cover while never saying goodbye

You finish one, pick up another, living lives just as variously

That’s the value, that’s the destination, you find a life you didn’t know you’d want

And just as easily, you can put it down, then take it up when you need to escape

It matters not where you go, where you dwell, only open a book and stay awake

You’ll learn things, about yourself and others, it’s called getting smarter, try not to flaunt

Fiction and non, matters not at all, you’ll find a new purpose with every scrawl

So find your genre, find your precious niche, soon you’ll be happy, you’ll find a fairy with a wish

Gnomic Father Pt. 2

Time to clean up now,

go grab the broom

A tidy house this allows,

you’ll understand real soon

Nice and even strokes,

no reason to hurry

The idea this evokes,

of feeling clean and not dirty

Slide the dustpan along,

grabbing the weekslong remains

No reason to live wrong,

breathing our own pains

Now the easy part, throwing it all away

Slide our parts to the trash, preparing for new days

The Gnomic Father

Father of mine, with your absent care

Words unexpressed are heard nonetheless

He spake hardly at all, but showed the world

Forming a bedrock of character for all to see but not hear

Expressed simply by sweat of brow, self-improvement is never time wasted

Callused hands working slow, care of a home matters

Unflattering activities put to test, relationships take work

Stony glare to soft pats, parenting requires all

Shadowed eyes at no suns rise, don’t waste your day

Shake hands and keep it straight, respect given freely unless cause not to

Help those when it is no large detriment, community after self

Long drives with teary eyes, family matters most of all

A father’s job isn’t and shouldn’t be easy, it’s a commitment to localized posterity

Spoken word is cheap and fast, only the body shows truth

A man’s soul is non-transferrable, but lessons forge a stronger spirit

Scars and slides will abide, the father’s test of man
