Some people know this, and others do not.
A few months ago, I established a contract with Podium to publish my Symphony series. They retain the rights to publish my novels on Kindle Unlimited, Digital E-book, Audiobook, and print.
They’re the only publisher I ever contacted because I was particularly interested in their expertise with Audiobook creation. You see, my writing style lends itself to the ear more than the eye. It’s a leftover bit of training I received from my time as a Radio and Television broadcaster.
Everything I write, be it Fantasy or Sci-fi, is better when spoke aloud than when read. So, I chose the company that had a good reputation for treating their authors well, and had a particular focus on audiobook creation.
Now, the publishing company presents the author with a list of names and examples of their work. I get some input here. So, I spent my day working with my wife, friends, and beta readers to see who could best fill the shoes of my protagonist Walker and his several friends and enemies.
To do it the right way, I listened to every sample and example of the narrator that I could find. I then placed my fully edited manuscript (thank you baby Jesus) into Speechify. I used voices in Speechify that sounded slightly similar to the voices of the listed narrators, and voila. I now can somewhat hear what it would sound like from their perspective.
My choices made, I emailed my Publisher back within a few hours of the listed receipt, and we move on to the next step of publishing.
I’ll be spending the next two weeks finalizing book three before I pause everything to go back and edit book two.
After all, the best way to sell your first book, is to have a second already ready to go.
